Maintaining a healthy lion population through genetic diversity

Apr 27, 2019

Two Bateleurs pilots, two Cessna Caravans, two flights, two lions each, one vet and one Bateleurs Manager.

That is how we translocated four lions from Limpopo to Kaingo Game Reserve and uMkhuze Game Reserve respectively. Improving genetic diversity is of utmost importance to maintain the health of a lion population as, without diversity, lions become more susceptible to disease and environmental challenges.
